• Coyote Problems

    Coyotes seem to be a growing issue across the State of Texas and Mountain City is no exception.  We have had several complaints about coyotes in the city limits over the past few months.  Sgt. Frank Cheatham of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit joined our City Council Meeting in March to offer a few tips.

    While Hays County SO does not have the equipment to pick up large animals they do have the equipment to trap racoons, possums and other like animals.  The idea is that if we remove the coyote food source then they will be forced to look elsewhere for food.  A few things you can do to help out include;

    • Bring pet food and water bowls in every evening
    • Install motion lights around the exterior of your hoome
    • Clean up fruit droppings from fruit trees
    • Clean up any small dead animals or call in large dead animals for removal

    If you ever encounter a coyote know that they are terrified of you more than you are of them!  So stomp your feet, scream,  yell, make a lot of motion and they will leave you alone.   And don’t let your small pets roam far from you and not without a leash.

  • City Ordinance Highlights – Prohibited Uses

    Each month we will highlight two City Ordinances on the Mountain City Website. The topics may or may not be items that were brought up in the latest council meeting. The City Council is in the process of revamping the Ordinances so if you have a specific question, comment or concern please direct these to an individual council memeber so they may be put on the agenda or bring them up on the discussion forum to get residential input. Both of these ordinances come from SECTION FOUR – USE RESTRICTIONS section of the ordinances.

    6. PROHIBITED USES-

    Losts shall be used for residential purposes only.  No building on the lots shall be used as a commercial garage, manufacturing, repair or storage facility.  Limited commercial use by the resident is allowed provided such use is not offensive to neighbors and does not give the appearance of a commercial establishment.  Should commercial use cause a nuisance to other residents of the City, such use must be terminated withint thirty (30) days of receiving written notice from the City Council.

  • Are Your Tree Limbs Close to Your Power Lines? PEC Can Help…

    If you have any tree limbs touching, close to or tangled in your PEC power lines please contact PEC directly at 1-888-554-4732.  The operator will be able to schedule a tree trimming for your specific residence.

    It is imperative that anyone having trees in the lines contact PEC individually so that the crews will know exactly where to go and what needs to be trimmed.  Trees can be a very tricky thing because we all love our trees and PEC wants to make sure they aren’t trimming a tree that the resident would prefer we not trim.

    ***NO LONGER ACCEPTING GLASS***

    Thank you Mountain City residents for the amazing response to the recycling trailer!  We have managed to fill up the trailer a couple of times every single month.  The high demand for “open dates” has been heard loud and clear by the council!! If you see the trailer in the driveway then it is open for business and we invite you to come by and dump your aluminum, plastics, paper and cardboard.  The bins are clearly labeled for you and we ask that if the bin is full please do not set the bag or box of items on the ground next to the bin, we would like to keep this area clean and neat as it is the first thing you see upon arrival into the city.

    A few points of note for recycling in the City of Mountain City ….
